Stereo Tango for 3D Cinema

Features & Benefits for the Stereographer
The Stereo Tango provides the demanding Stereographer with a precise control over the alignment of the left and right eye cameras being used to record 3D stereoscopic images.

Each camera is adjustable on its optical axis and at the intersection point of the combined two optical axes on the beam splitter.

The Stereo Tango is made of custom molded carbon fiber, achieving the highest rigidity for weight ratio on the market.

Time is money: aligning to two cameras is a delicate affair. Once aligned, you don’t want anything to move, ever! Once on set, the shooting schedule is always very ambitious and there is not time to waste in adjusting the mirror rig from day to day, from location to location, regardless of how difficult the shooting conditions are. The Stereo Tango provides very strong locks on each of the axes of alignment, a key element in the timely completion of a 3D shoot. This is a very reliable piece of kit, build on extensive 3D shooting experience.

The interocular/interaxial adjustment (0mm to 90mm) is motorized by interfacing with standard wireless lens control systems such as ARRI™, Cmotion™, Scorpio™ or Preston™.

The convergence adjustments can be manual or can be motorized (optional).

The 50/50 beam splitter is fixed at 45º (only 1 T-STOP light loss), the left & right eye cameras are each and independently adjustable over five axes: tilt, roll, pan, side to side, up-down & front to back.

The camera alignments are smooth, precise and repeatable. The alignments are individually locked preventing any drifting during production. Each alignment is referenced with fine graduations and indexes.

A large & fully adjustable carbon fiber light shield is provided to control stray light on set.

For the Rental House:
65º horizontal viewing angle is the gold standard for most 3D film making. Most of the 3D perception occurs within 20 feet of our eyes, capturing it requires very small interocular distances. The Stereo Tango fulfills these requirements.

Its carbon fiber construction offers high performance and high customer appeal.

The Stereo Tango™ enables the rental house to make full use of its existing inventory of 2D camera equipment for 3D Cinema & 3D Broadcast applications. The Stereo Tango is camera agnostic: small or large, all of the cameras in your inventory can be quickly mounted onto the Stereo Tango and precisely aligned to capture in 3D.

The Stereo Tango is built to last: rugged and ergonomic construction will greatly contribute to a quick return on investment.

We provide a fully documented parts list with exploded views.

The Stereo Tango is compatible with standard ARRI™ accessories: filter frames, filter retainers, rubber bellows, sliding bridge plates, iris rods, wireless lens control systems.

The Stereo Tango can be mounted onto a standard fluid head, a gear head and or a remote head. (multiple 3/8” mounting points are provided)

The Stereo Tango is delivered in a sturdy custom welded aluminum travel case with wheels.

For the Camera Crew
The Stereo Tango is well balanced, to the delight of the camera operator.

The layout of the Stereo Tango is not obstructing or restricting access to the camera equipment. It allows the camera crew to have full access to the cameras, lenses and viewfinders at all time. The accessories are standard ARRI™ accessories: filter frames, filter retainers, rubber bellows, sliding bridge plates, iris rods, wireless lens control systems.

Multiple mounting points (3/8”-16) are provided to attach on board monitors and transmitters.

Multiple handles are provided to enable a quick and fast move from set-up to set-up.

Product Overview

There are several accessories available for the 3D Stereo Tango :

  • Riser blocks for the SI 2K Mini cameras, including inverter block to accommodate the rolling shutter of both cameras to be in running in the same direction. This riser blocks bring the 2K Mini SI optical axis to the same height as the RED, ARRIFLEX D-21, ARRICAM, 235, 435, 535, 416 and 16SR3, so the standard ARRI bridgeplate can be used in order to mount the lens motors.
  • Inverter blocks for the RED, SONY F-35/23, SONY HDC-P1, Phantom, ALEXA cameras to accommodate the rolling shutter of both cameras to be in running in the same direction. This inverter block brings the optical axis of the inverted camera to the same height as the non-inverted camera, therefore the standard ARRI bridgeplates can be used in order to mount the lens motors.
  • Carbon fiber light shield set with adjustable hinges (left & right sides, Top and Bottom)
  • Digital protractor: A digital level with 0.01° accuracy makes the camera leveling quick and precise.
